The performance comes from stories — real ones — gathered in the SANTOVKA shopping center in the city of Olomouc, Czech Republic.
It’s about buyers and sellers and the way they move through this strange, shared space of capitalism. The local shopping center becomes a living experiment, where shopping, something so ordinary, turns into a kind of quiet and sometimes funny observation for the creator.
.
Paweł watches and listens as capitalism slips into the small moments of our everyday intimacy. He’s fascinated by the tragicomic transformations our humanity undergoes the moment we cross the threshold of a store.
What do we really buy when we are buying something? And what are we trying to sell in the act of selling? Paweł is curious about what happens between a customer and a salesperson, how power quietly shifts back and forth.
Buying myself back explores the little absurdities, the almost-comic ways we all get caught in the web of too many choices.
.
But we all love shopping, right? After all, who doesn’t love that thrill of feeling like you’re giving yourself a present?

Theatrical project created as a result of my artistic residency at Divadlo na cucky in partnership with students of Palacký University, and built upon the artistic exploration of capitalism initiated in Excuse me, how much is me?
